If you like mountain hiking or you are a fan of extreme sports like climbing, skiing or snowboarding; you should visit mountains in Poland. You can choose from 28 mountain peaks.

The most popular are Tatra Mountains which membership in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO. This is a place where you can walk along Morskie Oko Lake, buy polish shepherd's axe or smoked cheese Oscypek on the main road Krupówki in Zakopane and get on top of Rysy – the highest point of Tatra Mountains. Best ski slopes are in Bialka Tatrzanska, Kotelnica and Kaniowka. Fans of climbing should go to Olra Perc or Czerwona Lawka trail.

Less popular but magical and shrouded in legend of Bieda Bieszczady foreman are Bieszczady Mountains. Breathtaking landscapes and nostalgic atmosphere tempt artists and recluses to this lovely place. You can walk for many kilometres without seeing anyone apart from wild animals. Tarnica peak, Wielka Rawka peak, hidden chapels, gills, flora and fauna give unforgettable experiences and memories.

The Sudetes with the highest mountain range Karkonosze also hide many mysteries and myths. There are beautiful Niedzwiedzia cage in Sniezka range and Osowka complex- Hitler’s hidden city that he began building in Owl Mountains.


The Beskids ranges in the Carpathians are also attractive. There are 11 National Parks with many cross-country trails for tourists and bikers including Trans-Beskid Horse Riding Trail. Adam Malysz -the best polish ski jumper was born in this area.

The Pieniny Mountains are the second favorite tourists’ mountains after Tatra Mountains. Splyw Dunajcem- (water rafting on the river Dunajec) is one of the most popular attractions in Europe. Pieniny are relatively safe with not difficult hiking trails (Szczawnica- Sokolica- Kroscienko on Dunajec River- Three Crowns) If you like visiting and discover historical places, you should visit the ruins of the castles in Czorsztyn and Niedzica.

The Świętokrzyskie Mountains are one of the oldest mountains in Poland. Puszcza Jodlowa in the Świętokrzyski National Park is extraordinary. Lysica is the highest peak of the mountains but Lysa Gora attracts even more tourists. This is the place famous from the legend about witches’ sabbaths. For many years the Lysa Gora was gloryfied by pagans. Now, you can find there the Benedictine monastery, where a small piece of wood (from the Cross on which Jesus Christ was crucified) used to be kept. From this relic, the mountains have got its name.
